Horizon Yachts Grenada opened in 2000 and is part of the wider Horizon Yacht Charters group. With James and Jacqui Pascall at the helm, supported by their experienced and proven crew, the business has grown to become the obvious choice in the Southern Caribbean for discerning sailors.
A quick look at the biographies of the team behind Horizon Yachts Grenada will give you an idea of the strength of experience that is the mainstay of the business.
MEET THE TEAM
Gary has sailed for most of his life. He won a silver medal in the 2000 Asia Pacific Masters Games and cruised the world for ten years with his family, clocking up over 55,000m.
Gary is our Yacht Service Manager and Brokerage Specialist. He has sailed for most of his life, first as a windsurfing champion in the UK, and then in Australian ocean yacht racing, winning a silver medal in the 2000 Asia Pacific Masters Games. After obtaining an engineering degree and qualifications in diesel engine mechanics, and a further 20-year career in telecommunications in the UK, he moved to Australia in 1990. For the next 15 years Gary excelled in his role as Senior Account Executive for NEC Australia, acquiring the best technical solutions for major telecommunications business networks for government and private sector clients.
After many years in Australian offshore racing, Gary and his wife Venessa, took their two young children cruising around the world for the next decade and have since sailed over 50,000 miles as a family. Gary has a wealth of experience trouble shooting every part of a yacht’s systems, working alongside international marine specialists across the globe and in remote locations and subsequently has a vast knowledge of worldwide products and services.
Upon sailing to Grenada in 2015, they fell in love with the warm hospitality of the people, the vibrant music scene and the perfect sailing. If you don’t see Gary walking the docks or in a yard, you just might catch him playing saxophone with a local band somewhere.
With his extensive knowledge of yacht systems, racing, cruising and sales and marketing, Gary loves the marine business and helping Horizon clients both find and maintain the yacht of their dreams. For clients listing to sell, Gary offers valuable advice on how best to market their prize possession, and then follows through the process with attention to detail.
Just as important, when a client wishes to leave their yacht for the hurricane season, Gary ensures that every detail is attended to such as organising the haul out, repairs to all systems, hurricane management strategies and general boat watch and maintenance whilst the owners are away.
James instigated the introduction of simplified clearance procedures for marine vessels by the Grenadian Government and is a board member of MAYAG.
With 15 years of sailing yachts and dinghies in the UK behind him, James found his international sea legs while managing a flotilla of yachts in the Mediterranean. After a year back in England, ensuring Sunsail’s regulations were up to scratch, he returned to the Med as first mate of a 50-metre top-sail schooner before becoming the fleet manager of a 40-yacht holiday company in Greece. Following the trans-Atlantic delivery of a yacht to the Caribbean, James became the assistant manager of The Moorings in the British Virgin Isles for a year before being promoted to manage their operations in Grenada in 1998. He met and married Jacqui in the Caribbean and, convinced they could provide a top-class charter business, together they opened Horizon Yachts Grenada in 2000. In 2005 he instigated the introduction of simplified clearance procedures for marine vessels by the Grenadian Government and has been a board member of the Marine and Yachting Association of Grenada since 2006.
James has sailed over 50,000 miles and has six seasons of racing and various Caribbean regattas under his belt. He’s experienced a couple of hurricanes (including Ivan in 2004) and is fluent in French. He has overall responsibility for business strategy and can be found in the Port Louis offices, or at sailing events throughout the Southern Caribbean and at the bigger boat-shows in North America.
Jacqui’s first sailing experience was sailing a replica of the Golden Hinde, Sir Francis Drake’s famous galleon, across the Atlantic Ocean from England to Vancouver.
Jacqui began her maritime career in her early twenties, as a member of the crew that sailed a 120-foot, square-rigged replica of Sir Frances Drake’s Golden Hinde across the Atlantic Ocean from England to Vancouver’s 1986 World Expo. Duly hooked on sailing, Jacqui embraced modernity and crewed several luxury yachts around the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, and Australia before returning to her English roots.
After a short spell working as a yacht broker, Jacqui returned to the Caribbean and met her future husband and business partner, James, in Grenada. Together, they established the bareboat charter company Horizon Yachts Grenada in 2000.
Jacqui can often be found at events around Grenada and the islands in the Grenadines, and occasionally further afield, tirelessly promoting the region, sailing, and her business.
"Just to let you know how much we appreciated yours and Horizon yachts help whilst we were in Grenada. A friendly face, a helpful manner and a thorough knowledge of the commercial yacht scene was more than we could have asked for. Alicia and I are eternally grateful for your help and assistance." ~ David Gozzard, S/V GOZWOZ (Jan 2015)
"Just wanted to say how impressed we were with the caretaking Pandora received as part of your yacht management programme. We were kept fully informed on a regular basis without any need for 'chasing' on our part and our list of additional job requests was completed in time for our return. The cleaning of the boat, inside and out, was exceptional—she felt like brand new. Being away, it gave us great comfort to know she was in such good hands." ~ Mike & Nicola, S/V Pandora (Dec 2014)
"The Horizon team in Grenada is very professional, their team has all the required knowledge to keep the boat in top shape and of course they are friendly. I know that when I am away from the boat I can trust them 100% and I will always find the boat in perfect condition when I come back to Grenada." ~ Marc Regnaud, S/V Santosha 1 (Jan 2015)
"You are a miracle-worker! It's is simply brilliant that you've manage to get us sea-worthy and I have to say I am impressed. It is not lost on us how difficult it can be to get things done in Grenada when everyone wants to go sailing at the same time. It is also not lost on us how important your hard work is to our having a successful Christmas break. So very heartfelt thanks are in order." ~ Adam Elgar, Gallivanter of Lymington 1 (Dec 2015)
